Geolocation using Buddycloud
May 17 - 2009You are reading an old post! The feature described here is no longer "active". If you are still interested of it, don't hesitate to contact me.
XMPP is an exciting world for beginners like me. Last week I discovered cool new service, Buddycloud. As Buddycloud describes itself it's innovative web service for contextual location. Lets providers of mobile social applications enhance their application by meaningful location information quickly and easily. End users share their location as placemarks and transitions between these.

So here is and example what can be done using buddycloud easilly. I have a simple bot following my Buddycloud PEP event's and when my Buddycloud geolocation changes, the image updates. Cool!
The geolocation can be very exact sometimes so I have added the "large scale" map view on purpose. I have added the Geolocation image to appear on my contact pages too.
I recommend everyone who is interested to take a look on buddycloud's pages. They have pretty good API documentation with examples to get started.
If you want to use this for your Buddycloud account, that's easy. Just subscribe to user 'mapbuddy@buddycloud.com' and you can see your
location as a JPEG image at
